Fango has learned that THE UNINVITED, Paramount/DreamWorks’ remake of director Kim Jee-woon’s 2003 Korean fright film A TALE OF TWO SISTERS, has tentatively slotted January 30, 2009 as its U.S. release date.

That puts the picture smack in the middle of next year’s other high-profile horror reduxes: HELLRAISER, MY BLOODY VALENTINE 3-D, FRIDAY THE 13TH and THE WOLF MAN. THE UNINVITED revolves around Anna (Emily Browning of GHOST SHIP and DARKNESS FALLS), who returns home after spending time in the hospital following the tragic death of her mother.

Her recovery suffers a setback when she discovers that her father (DOLORES CLAIBORNE’s David Strathairn) has become engaged to her mother’s former nurse, Rachel (SLiTHER’s Elizabeth Banks). That night, Anna is visited by her mother’s ghost, who warns her of Rachel’s dastardly intentions, and she and her sister (THE GRUDGE 2’s Arielle Kebbel) try to convince Dad that his current fiancée is not who she pretends to be.

The Guard Brothers (Charles and Thomas) directed THE UNINVITED from a script by Craig Rosenberg (former LOST story editor), Doug Miro and Carlo Bernard. THE RING remake’s Walter Parkes, Laurie MacDonald and Roy (SHUTTER) Lee produced the Vancouver-lensed film. Watch Fango this fall for set-visit coverage of THE UNINVITED. —Tony Timpone
