Arielle Kebbel has every reason to be fearful in The Uninvited. In the thriller premiering in theaters January 30, Elizabeth Banks spooks Kebbel and so much more.

The Uninvited paints a family picture that is somewhat common in modern day America. Of course, minus the thrills provided by Kebbel, Banks and the entire cast. Here we have a single parent (in this case father played by David Strathairn), raising young children who as a family have to deal with the addition of a new love interest for the adult. And thus, the suspicious and often thrilling ride that is The Uninvited begins. Banks portrays the much younger love interest of Strathairn’s Steven. In the hands of talented young actresses Kebbel and Browning, The Uninvited thrills.

From starring with Emma Roberts in Aquamarine to John Tucker Must Die, Kebbel has generated some serious Hollywood heat. The 23-year-old actress reflects on a filmmaking experience to treasure with The Uninvited that is continuing a career that has Tinsel Town talking.

SheKnows: Ricky Martin?

Arielle Kebbel: In my mind, he is still a very straight man (laughs).

SheKnows: Did you find the shoot grueling up in the islands of British Columbia? Talk about a hike to get to work.

Arielle Kebbel: It wasn’t grueling. It was an incredible way to start and finish each day because they picked us up at the hotel – – either 6 a.m. or 6 p.m. depending on if we were doing a night shoot or a day shoot, and we had about a 20 minute drive through the mountains and the countryside and then from there they dropped us off at a marina. We’d all jump on a boat and have a 20 minute boat ride to an island where they built stairs on the back side of the island for us to climb up the mountain and get to our trailers in time. And, from there, got driven through a bit more of some woods to the lake house, it was just going to camp every day. You had time to gear up for your day. At the end of a long day of filming, you had time to unwind and some people would on the boat. Some people would go out and get some fresh air. People were chatting. It was just, I found it a phenomenal way to start and finish each day.

Landing a friend and a plum role

SheKnows: How did your BFF relationship with Emily Browning aide in your performance? You play sisters. You guys became really sisterly throughout the filming of The Uninvited.

Arielle Kebbel: We did. We were up there for about a week before we started filming and that was really where we spent the most time bonding because that was where we discovered we had so much in common. We loved all the same foods and liked all the same music and similar qualities in boys (laughs). You know, and then from there when we had that foundation when we felt comfortable with one another to start talk about the script. What can we add in this scene? What do we want to take away from this scene? Or what’s most important here? What lingo can we throw in to make it like we’re real life sisters? That was very important to us to make sure that we maintained that whole consistency through the whole script. After we had that week and a half of prepping, we never had to think about it again. That set the tone. From that moment on we were either making fun of each other or hanging out. There was a lot of times on those boat rides we were so comfortable with one another, we didn’t have to talk. Sometimes when you’re that comfortable with a person it’s nice to be in their presence without ever having to say a word.

Thrillers rule

SheKnows: What is it about the thriller’s such as The Uninvited that has enthralled audiences?

Arielle Kebbel: I think it’s pure entertainment. I think that you’re completely sucked in and for the next hour and a half of your life you don’t have time to think about anything else except for what is really going on? Could this really happen? Please don’t let this happen to me (laughs). I love the pure entertainment value.

SheKnows: How is success in Hollywood at a young age?

Arielle Kebbel: It’s tremendously exciting. With anyone’s career it’s never an overnight success. Part of the fun is all the hard work and time and energy that is put in behind the scenes that nobody sees or knows about. That’s what makes the rise so special. It would never be without the hard work and time and energy put in behind the scenes. It’s not just me (laughs).
