Kebbel on training to protect were-tigers and witches on ‘Midnight, Texas’

From were-tigers and witches to demons and psychics, the town of Midnight is a haven for outsiders. Locals like hit-woman Olivia Charity band together to fight off external pressures from biker gangs and more to take care of home.

This is “Midnight, Texas,” based on author Charlaine Harris’ “Midnight, Texas” trilogy, which premieres on Monday, July 24 at 10 p.m. ET on NBC.

Olivia Charity, played by Arielle Kebbel, has a weapon for every occasion — sometimes using double guns, knives, and snipers to protect the town.

In preparation for the role, Kebbel trained with stunt/fight coordinator John Koyama of Brand X Stunts, who has over 100 stunt and acting credits to his name. He’s worked on major films like “Furious 7,” “Book of Eli,” “Daredevil” and more.

espnW did a training session with Kebbel and Koyama in West Hollywood, California, to see just how Kebbel transformed into an assassin for the scripted series.

Kebbel Sounds Off On Her Sexy New Role in the ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ Series

At the time Arielle Kebbel scored the role of the ambitious (and aptly named) sideline reporter Tracy Legette on HBO’s breakout sports drama Ballers, in which she plays the love interest to none other than Mr. Dwayne Johnson himself, the 31-year-old sports nut found herself perfectly at ease. “I’m thankful that my research requires me to sit with my friends and watch football every Sunday,” she says. “Tracy lives in a guy’s world, but she’s also a gal—it’s important that I give her a feminine aspect.”

Set in Miami, Ballers brings things full circle for Kebbel—a Floridian herself, born and raised near Orlando. It’s the latest in a string of impressive TV gigs for the former model, including recurring roles in HBO’s Entourage and True Blood and the CW’s The Vampire Diaries. She’ll extend that supernatural streak with a meaty part in NBC’s new Midnight, Texas, a spooky mystery replete with witches and otherworldly stuff, which premieres this fall.

You’ll also see her taking over a seriously major film franchise in 2018, when she’ll star in Fifty Shades Freed, the third in the Fifty Shades of Grey series, which is already in production. Lucky for us, Kebbel relishes playing sexy as much as she does playing smart. “In Fifty Shades I’m a top architect who just happens to flaunt her body a bit much when she’s around the Greys,” she says. “She has these bright-red nails and loves touching everyone with them; it feels like a character for whom nothing would be too much—and that’s so much fun.”

Spoken like a true baller.

Kebbel Describes What It’s Like to Film a Love Scene with ‘DJ’

Returning this summer for her second season on Ballers, Arielle Kebbel makes working in her home state extra hot.

As Tracy Legette on HBO’s Ballers, Arielle Kebbel brings the sexy to the sports world, playing the sassy love interest of Dwayne Johnson’s character on the hit show set in Miami. Sometimes, though, it gets a little too steamy. “One time, DJ and I were doing a love scene and I was getting sweaty,” Kebbel says. “When we called cut, I realized one of my pasties had transferred from me to him in the midst of it all, so we had to take a moment to reset.”

Born and raised in Winter Park, Florida, Kebbel spent her childhood either in the water or riding horses, she says. Today she loves filming in Miami, which she calls “an additional character on our show.” Along with Ballers, which returns for its second season on July 17, Kebbel is starring in the upcoming Fifty Shades of Grey sequel, Fifty Shades Freed, in which she plays Gia Matteo. “She is so spicy and causes all sorts of drama,” the actress says. “For me, it’s fun to play in that world.”

While Fifty Shades Freed was shot in Vancouver, Kebbel hopes her next project returns her to the South Florida sun. “I heard they’re making a Bad Boys 3,” she says. “Bring me back to Miami!”

LadyGunn Interview

It’s a windy Valentine’s Day morning when Arielle Kebbel calls me. Although primarily based in Los Angeles, she is currently at a yoga retreat in Mexico. “I love it here, it’s very untouched,” she tells me. And despite her busy schedule, there is a sense of calmness in Kebbel’s voice, and I’m excited to dive into her mind.

Normally, I have phone anxiety. I can easily talk in person or through text or e-mail, but I despise phone calls. Something about them makes me feel oddly uncomfortable. But with Kebbel, it’s different. We’ve never spoken before and quite frankly, I don’t really know what to expect. Yet every word she speaks is so down-to-earth, like calling an old friend for a casual conversation. She also has a fascinating stillness about her that makes you want to know more.

So then, who exactly is Arielle Kebbel? Let’s just say that she always plays that one character you can’t get enough of. She portrays everyone’s favorite vampire Lexi on CW’s The Vampire Diaries, and she graces the screen as Carrie in 2006’s classic teen comedy, John Tucker Must Die.

Wondering where else you’ve seen her? How about American Pie? Gilmore Girls? Aquamarine? The list goes on.

Arielle Stops By KLOS-FM

Our girl Arielle stopped by KLOS-FM and we have the audio below. She talks about Ballers, The Grinder, The League and what her parents reactions was to the sex scene in The League the other night!

Kebbel Appreciates Someone Who’ll Pick Her Up At The Airport

Arielle Kebbel is an actress who can currently be seen portraying Tracy Legette — a Miami sportscaster who is also involved romantically with Dwayne Johnson’s ex-NFL star turned financial manager, Spencer Strasmore — in the HBO series, Ballers. You may have also seen her in shows like True Blood, Gilmore Girls, and The Vampire Diaries, as well as films like John Tucker Must Die and Think Like a Man. The season finale of Ballers airs on Sunday, August 23.

Arielle was nice enough to take a few minutes out of her busy schedule recently to answer a few questions from us.

1. You walk into a bar. What do your order from the bartender?

A good “Knock-Knock” joke!

2. Who’s your favorite person to follow on Twitter?

The Band Perry – I’m such a country music nerd.

3. What’s currently waiting for you on your DVR/TiVO?

I actually got rid of TV for the summer. (BUT – I do go to my friend’s to watch Ballers every Sunday!)

4. It’s your last meal — what are you going out with?

I hardly eat meat, so if I am going to splurge, it would have to be In-N-Out Double Double and a milkshake. I would go to McDonald’s to get their french fries first. Then dip them in the In-N-Out milkshake. Salty and sweet.

5. What websites do you visit on a regular basis?

CNN, ESPN, Thrillist, Who What Wear, Huffington Post, Daily Love, Variety, the Hollywood Reporter… and I have been known to go to YouTube to watch old Ellen videos when I need to smile.

6. What’s the most frequently played song on your mobile device?

Depends on the time of day. I have been known to switch from country to rap to Latin within minutes.

7. The first face that comes to mind when you think “punchable?”

The Minions! They’re so darn cute I want to punch them every time they talk.

8. What’s the last thing you googled?

Directions… everywhere.

9. Dogs or cats?

10. Best concert of your life was…?

Janet Jackson’s Velvet Rope concert. She turned me onto stiletto boots. Unfortunately for me, I was 12.

11. What book are you most likely to give as a gift?

Depends on the person. I have recently gifted both Tony Robbins’ Money: Master the Game and also Getting the Love You Want by Harville Hendrix. Both were recommended to me and both have changed my life significantly.

12. What’s the nicest thing anyone has ever done for you?

Picked me up from the airport when I least expected it. Made me cry.

13. South Park or Family Guy?

Family Guy!

14. You have an entire day to do whatever you want. What would you do?

Sleep in! Then wake up and have breakfast in bed. Coffee first. Go volunteer at this local animal rescue farm near my house. Head to the beach for a nice swim to decompress. Then alternate between a good game of volleyball and some quiet time with my new book. Meet up with friends to enjoy some good sushi, sake and laughs while we watch the sunset.

15. What movie can you not resist watching if it’s on?

Scent of a Woman.

16. The sports team or teams you’re most passionate about?

Denver Broncos, Green Bay Packers, and a few pro riders on the equestrian show jumping circuit. Ashlee Bond being one of the fresh, young greats!

17. Where did you eat the best meal of your life?

Hard to say THE BEST, but I know one of my all-time fav meals was at Mozza on La Brea. I was there for a private party, and it was a special night. Every course we were served was actually better than the last, and I never wanted it to end.

18. The last movie you saw in a theater?

Jurassic World in 3D.

19. Who was your first celebrity crush?

I don’t remember exactly, but I was backstage at a Ricky Martin concert (when I was about 13) and he kissed me on the cheek. I was a changed woman after that ?

20. What would you cook if Nic Cage was coming to your house for dinner?

I’ve read he has some unusual dining habits, so I would invite him over for a night of cooking and let him chose the menu. While we were busy cooking, I would also be busy asking anything I could get away with about his career/movie choices. He’s been in some of my childhood favs.
