‘Midnight, Texas’ Season 2 Renewal Update: NBC in Talks With Cast for Potential Return

The fate of “Midnight, Texas” remains up in the air as NBC remains silent about a season 2 renewal.

The radio silence about the show has many worried that fans have seen the last of the series, which ended its 10-episode run last September.

However, not all hope is lost about “Midnight, Texas” season 2. According to TVLine, NBC is in talks with the members of the cast, which includes François Arnaud, Dylan Bruce, Parisa Fitz-Henley, Arielle Kebbel, Jason Lewis, Peter Mensah, Sarah Ramos and Yul Vázquez about a potential renewal. Nothing has been made official though.

One of the reasons that the show is in limbo is because the turnout was not as big as the network has hoped despite the huge following behind the Charlaine Harris book that the show was based in.

The network also expected fans of HBO’s “True Blood,” which is based on the “Southern Vampire Mysteries” series that was created by Harris as well.

Premiering to 4.92 viewers tuning in, “Midnight, Texas” also saw a dip in viewership by the season finale, but it remained at four million — 4.05 million to be exact. Its lowest numbers were after the fourth episode at 3.46 million, but it quickly climbed to 4.74 after that. The rating ranged from 0.6 to 0.9.

Those numbers, unfortunately, do not guarantee “Midnight, Texas” a second season. For now, fans will have to wait for NBC to drop the verdict.

Kebbel on training to protect were-tigers and witches on ‘Midnight, Texas’

From were-tigers and witches to demons and psychics, the town of Midnight is a haven for outsiders. Locals like hit-woman Olivia Charity band together to fight off external pressures from biker gangs and more to take care of home.

This is “Midnight, Texas,” based on author Charlaine Harris’ “Midnight, Texas” trilogy, which premieres on Monday, July 24 at 10 p.m. ET on NBC.

Olivia Charity, played by Arielle Kebbel, has a weapon for every occasion — sometimes using double guns, knives, and snipers to protect the town.

In preparation for the role, Kebbel trained with stunt/fight coordinator John Koyama of Brand X Stunts, who has over 100 stunt and acting credits to his name. He’s worked on major films like “Furious 7,” “Book of Eli,” “Daredevil” and more.

espnW did a training session with Kebbel and Koyama in West Hollywood, California, to see just how Kebbel transformed into an assassin for the scripted series.

Arielle to appear on ‘To Tell The Truth’ TONIGHT!

I will hopefully have screencaptures later after it airs! I can’t wait. Starts in about 30 mins here in the East Coast!

Kebbel Sounds Off On Her Sexy New Role in the ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ Series

At the time Arielle Kebbel scored the role of the ambitious (and aptly named) sideline reporter Tracy Legette on HBO’s breakout sports drama Ballers, in which she plays the love interest to none other than Mr. Dwayne Johnson himself, the 31-year-old sports nut found herself perfectly at ease. “I’m thankful that my research requires me to sit with my friends and watch football every Sunday,” she says. “Tracy lives in a guy’s world, but she’s also a gal—it’s important that I give her a feminine aspect.”

Set in Miami, Ballers brings things full circle for Kebbel—a Floridian herself, born and raised near Orlando. It’s the latest in a string of impressive TV gigs for the former model, including recurring roles in HBO’s Entourage and True Blood and the CW’s The Vampire Diaries. She’ll extend that supernatural streak with a meaty part in NBC’s new Midnight, Texas, a spooky mystery replete with witches and otherworldly stuff, which premieres this fall.

You’ll also see her taking over a seriously major film franchise in 2018, when she’ll star in Fifty Shades Freed, the third in the Fifty Shades of Grey series, which is already in production. Lucky for us, Kebbel relishes playing sexy as much as she does playing smart. “In Fifty Shades I’m a top architect who just happens to flaunt her body a bit much when she’s around the Greys,” she says. “She has these bright-red nails and loves touching everyone with them; it feels like a character for whom nothing would be too much—and that’s so much fun.”

Spoken like a true baller.

Kebbel Describes What It’s Like to Film a Love Scene with ‘DJ’

Returning this summer for her second season on Ballers, Arielle Kebbel makes working in her home state extra hot.

As Tracy Legette on HBO’s Ballers, Arielle Kebbel brings the sexy to the sports world, playing the sassy love interest of Dwayne Johnson’s character on the hit show set in Miami. Sometimes, though, it gets a little too steamy. “One time, DJ and I were doing a love scene and I was getting sweaty,” Kebbel says. “When we called cut, I realized one of my pasties had transferred from me to him in the midst of it all, so we had to take a moment to reset.”

Born and raised in Winter Park, Florida, Kebbel spent her childhood either in the water or riding horses, she says. Today she loves filming in Miami, which she calls “an additional character on our show.” Along with Ballers, which returns for its second season on July 17, Kebbel is starring in the upcoming Fifty Shades of Grey sequel, Fifty Shades Freed, in which she plays Gia Matteo. “She is so spicy and causes all sorts of drama,” the actress says. “For me, it’s fun to play in that world.”

While Fifty Shades Freed was shot in Vancouver, Kebbel hopes her next project returns her to the South Florida sun. “I heard they’re making a Bad Boys 3,” she says. “Bring me back to Miami!”

Florida Actress Arielle Kebbel Makes Impassioned Plea for Change After Orlando Shooting

The actress made her comments at the end of the final panel of the ATX Festival after leading a script reading of ‘The O.C’ pilot episode.

The fifth annual ATX Television Festival ended on a somber note Sunday when actress and festival ambassador Arielle Kebbel took a moment to pay tribute to the victims of the Orlando nightclub shooting.

Kebbel, who hails from nearby Winter Park, Flo., opened up about the “devastating event” after a script reading of The O.C. pilot which she and other celebrities participated in. The shooting left at least 50 dead and 53 more injured.

“Now is the time for change,” Kebbel said after the end of the reading. The Vampire Diaries actress went onto to urge those in attendance to help facilitate that change through voting, through writing letters to the families of the victims, or “whatever feels comfortable for you.”

Kebbel went on to point to the laughter heard in the room during the script reading. “Laughter is a beautiful thing and I do believe that love and happiness and people coming together can change America,” she also said.

Earlier in the day, the festival canceled a panel on violence on TV that was set for Sunday morning in the wake of the shooting. In addition, a vigil will be held near festival headquarters in downtown Austin Sunday evening.

‘Midnight Texas’ Gets Picked-Up

Director Niels Arden Oplev’s hot streak continues with another pilot he directed going to series. NBC has given a series order to supernatural drama Midnight, Texas, based on the books by author Charlaine Harris who already has one hit supernatural drama series based on her novels to her credit — HBO’s True Blood. This is the third hourlong pilot to go to series at NBC, along with Chicago Justice and Dan Fogelman’s This Is Us. Midnight, Texas and Chicago Justice hail from Universal TV; This Is Us is from 20th TV.
The network continues tense negotiations with Sony TV for its three drama pilots, The Blacklist spinoff and Timeless, which look very good for a pickup, and Cruel Intentions, which also is in contention. The issue is in-season stacking rights, which NBC is demanding for all new series this season.

This is the third pilot directed by Oplev in the past year or so to go to series, following Mr. Robot at USA and Game of Silence at NBC.
