'9-1-1' Interview Projects

The newest firefighting cast member of “9-1-1” faced some very personal fears when she joined the hit Fox series about first responders.

“I’ve been terrified of fire my entire life. Yes, I did sign onto this job. But, my house burned down as a kid,” Arielle Kebbel, 37, told The Post, adding that she was around 4 years old at the time.

“I watched my mom carry my brother out of the house; my sister and I grabbed the animals. I have vivid memories of the smells of it, and the sound of the ambulance,” she said. “[The firefighters] saved our lives. So, when I first got this job, my family’s response was ‘How do you feel about that?’ because everyone knows that fire is hard for me. But, I felt like it was time to literally walk into the fire and face it.”

Now in its fifth season, “9-1-1″ (Mondays at 9 p.m.) follows the personal and professional lives of various LA-based first responders and the emergencies they face on the job. Among others, there’s patrol sergeant Athena Grant-Nash (Angela Bassett) and her husband, fire station 118 captain Bobby Nash (Peter Krause); caring, impulsive firefighter Evan “Buck” Buckley (Oliver Stark); Buck’s sister, Maddie (Jennifer Love Hewitt); loyal and even-tempered paramedic Henrietta “Hen” Wilson (Aisha Hinds); and lighthearted firefighter/ paramedic Howie “Chimney” Han (Kenneth Choi).

Kebbel plays Lucy Donato, a firefighter who works with the 118 team. She’s bold and confident, and in her introduction in the March 21 spring premiere, sparks flew between Lucy and Buck as they shared a kiss.

“Her backstory is that she has three brothers and comes from a family of cops. She’s the black sheep. She’s a firefighter instead, and she’s very proud of that decision,” said Kebbel. “Everyone’s had a lot to say about that Buck kiss. I’m excited in the episodes coming up [because] Lucy has some big rescues. A lot of her stuff is with Buck, but there’s also a nice moment between Lucy and Chimney.”

She hinted that if the show is renewed for a sixth season, the plotline leaves room for more developments with Lucy.

Kebbel, a veteran actress who’s been in a slew of movies and shows, including “John Tucker Must Die,” “The Vampire Diaries,” “Gilmore Girls,” “90210,” and “Midnight, Texas,” said she’s no stranger to the level of physicality required by her “9-1-1” role.

“I grew up doing sports, and I used to want to be a professional horseback rider as my career. It’s naturally who I am, and I’ve enjoyed bringing that piece of athleticism to my characters,” she said. “But specifically, on ‘Midnight, Texas,’ because I played an assassin, I had to be so aware of set safety, and what it meant to have weapons on set, whether they were real or fake. I was excited [for ‘9-1-1’] because I’ve never played a firefighter before, and it’s the most physically demanding job I’ve ever done.

“They use real fire on the set. We have all of our gear on and are breathing out of oxygen tanks, and they’re very heavy,” she said. “It’s staged, but it’s real fire. So, what prepared me the most is learning how to speak up and be present and safe while we’re doing these stunts.”

She said her first fire stunt was “a big moment for me, emotionally and physically,” thanks to her past experience with fire as a child, but she felt supported by the cast and crew.

“I didn’t know what I was walking into [joining the show]. I was aware it was Season 5, I wasn’t sure if the cast was close … It’s like the first day of school, all over again,” she said. And I am so impressed with this cast and crew. It’s truly one of my favorite projects that I’ve ever been on. It’s hard mentally and physically, so the cast and crew’s camaraderie is the glue that holds things together.”

Arielle Kebbel Fan Gallery Updates Photoshoots

Whew, it didn’t seem that we took that much of a break but I had been quietly working on revamping the gallery but kept the site open until then. Eventually when my host was running out of space (the site itself was well over 30 GB), I decided to close the site down for maintenance while I finished up with the new gallery. We have several new additions to the gallery including new photoshoots! All of the pictures are scale down to compress file size so it’s not taking up so much space! I have to thank Anna who had designed this header many months ago and I kept it just for this launch! In case you are also wondering, we have 2 domains you can reach us at: Arielle-kebbel.org and Arielle-kebbel.net.

As a quick reminder, Arielle is set to be on 9-11 tonight! Don’t miss out!

'9-1-1' Projects Recent News

Arielle Kebbel is set for a major recurring role opposite Oliver Stark in Fox drama series 9-1-1.

Kebbel will play Lucy Donato, an LAFD Firefighter working at rival firehouse 147, but joins together with the 118 for a daring rescue. Lucy is super confident, fearless and is as quick at making life or death decisions as she is at speaking her mind. In many ways she is a daredevil counterpart to the 118’s Evan ‘Buck’ Buckley (Stark).

Kebbel’s character will be introduced in the series’ spring premiere on Monday, March 21 at 8 PM.

Created by Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Tim Minear, 9-1-1 explores the high-pressure experiences of police officers, firefighters and dispatchers who are thrust into the most frightening, shocking and heart-stopping situations. These emergency responders must try to balance saving those who are at their most vulnerable with solving the problems in their own lives.

In the fall finale, Eddie (Guzman) was at a crossroads and his future with the 118 was unclear. When the series returns this spring, Athena (Bassett), Bobby (Krause) and the 118 “speed” to the rescue to save a family whose pick-up truck has been rigged with a pipe bomb which will detonate if the vehicle slows under 55 miles an hour. Meanwhile, Eddie has a rough transition into his new job, Buck (Stark) makes an impulsive relationship decision and the 118 welcome two new members to the team.

9-1-1 is produced by 20th Television in association with Ryan Murphy Television and Brad Falchuk Teley-Vision. Murphy, Falchuk and Minear are also executive producers and writers on the series. Bradley Buecker is an executive producer and director on the series. Alexis Martin Woodall, Bassett, Krause, John J. Gray, Kristen Reidel and Juan Carlos Coto also serve as executive producers.

Kebbel also can be seen in the third and fourth chapter in the After series. After We Fell, currently on Netflix, and After Ever for director Castille London. She most recently starred in NBC’s  Lincoln Rhyme: The Hunt for the Bone Collector, with Russell Hornsby. She also starred in NBC’s Midnight, Texas.Kebbel is repped by Gersh, Untitled Entertainment and Barry Littman at Hansen, Jacobson, Teller, Hoberman, Newman, Warren, Richman, Rush, Kaller & Gellman.

The After movies’ production team just announced some cast shakeups!

Fans had already figured out that a handful of characters were being replaced, and now we have all the official information.

Chance Perdomo has joined the cast as Landon, who was previously played by Shane Paul McGhie. See Shane‘s note to fans about leaving the series.

Carter Jenkins will also join the cast of After We Fell and After Ever After in the role of Robert, a potential love interest for Tessa.

Other cast shakeups include Stephen Moyer taking on Charlie Weber‘s role of Christian Vance and Mira Sorvino is replacing Selma Blair as Carol.

Another new addition is Arielle Kebbel, taking over as Kimberly from Candice King, who is pregnant with her second baby.

The changes in the cast are due to them filming in “Eastern Europe because the COVID numbers are far lower than where we shot movies 1 & 2 and this safeguards our cast. We are also shooting the films back to back, which means some of the original cast were not available to return for various reasons, whether it be scheduling or other commitments.”
